Who could have known the quiet nerd from sector C could turn the combine on its head in neckbreak speed. Gordons arrival had sped up things by tenfold, Barney still had to process it. He just sighed and turned over, facing the wall. Made him all fidgety and short tempered, guess he just wasn’t cut out for the Slavic winters considering he lived in California and New Mexico for most of his life.īut the guard knew he could fall asleep easily, truthfully something else was bothering him more than the cold. He liked to sleep through the cold, he didn’t function properly in this weather. Perhaps that’s why early humans didn’t bother with yearly celebrations when there were mammoths to kill.īarney tried to keep his mind busy, hoping the constant flow of thoughts and hand rubbing under the paper thin blanket would tire his brain out enough. Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter, Día de los Muertos were all written off by the constant battle for survival. Who cared if it was the 9 th or the 10 th? Even holidays once adored by the whole world were now obsolete.

These days the dates really didn’t matter at all since any of them might as well been your last. It was far beyond those warm seasons at that point though, more specifically it was the middle of January. Summer and spring brought the warm sun and a certain chill to the air, unlike summer back in New Mexico where even SPF 100 didn’t stand a chance against the sun. It provided the much needed protection of the human resistance. Half Life: Alyx beg to differ. The nights in White Forest have always been cold, being that the base was literally located in the middle of the mountains in a small meadow, buttfuck nowhere Slavic-land. For a time we all thought it would be the final release and the series would never return. Of course it was all capped off by a brutal cliffhanger that left fans in the dark for so long. A reworked helicopter chase and the standout defence of White Forest against a legion of striders are just a couple of the more extravagant moments in the Episode. The writing has more heart, the levels more varied and the set-pieces more spectacular. Half-Life 2: Episode Two, unlike its predecessor, makes many marked improvements on the base game. What follows is a tightly-paced thrill ride with new enemies and rural environments. Picking up right where Episode One left off, Gordon and Alyx continue their journey to regroup with the Lamda Resistance at the White Forest base. While it may have been overshadowed in the eventual release, Half-Life 2: Episode 2 is an excellent shooter expansion, finally moving outside of City 17 and broadening its scenarios to great effect.
